SOFTWARE ENGINEER - IN OFFSHORE CONTROL SYSTEMS (F/M)

Part time / full time:

From 80 to 100%

Location:

Utrecht / Rotterdam / The Hague

We are looking for an experienced (min 3 yrs.) software engineer, with strong practical experience in building & testing software applied in control systems of mechanical devices.

Your key goals (jointly with the rest our Control Systems team) will be to:

  • Develop software for the actuator and machine controls of our our inline Active Heave Compensation tools.

  • Analyse data and performance of our machines in the field

  • Design, write and test new functional software to improve machine performance from scratch and/or improve / maintain existing software, or transform existing software to be applied on new larger machines

  • Implement software into the machines in the field and support field engineers with troubleshooting where needed

  • Help Seaqualize to structurally improve the way we develop software, by implementing best practices (reducing complexity, improve version control, test procedures, software robustness for next versions etc.)

  • The software will control parts of the hydraulic system (manifolds, valves, cylinders, PV’s, PTA’s etc.), electrical system (sensor, network, power, actuation, batteries, cable routing, cooling etc.) or software (all developed in-house, PLC and CU programming, controls, HMI’s, logging systems etc.). You don’t need to excel in all fields, there is plenty of work in all of them to focus on. A broad interest is a plus though.

REQUIRED SKILLSET

  • Proven experience (min 3 yrs) in large-scale software applications in the field of control systems in (offshore) machinery, including test plan development and execution

  • Min 1 yr working experience with industry standard software best practices

  • Strong programming skills in Matlab, Python, C# or C++

  • Being able to make quick iterations based on discussion with colleagues, drafting first setups for feedback, and then quickly working towards a fourth or fifth version of a software design

  • Experience with Siemens / TIA portal programming is highly recommended; 3D CAD software, any dynamic simulation software (e.g. Orcaflex) experience always good to have onboard

  • Flexibility, inventiveness, enthusiasm, self-reliance

  • Willing to get down in the details, do the programming, de-bugging, testing and teaching others

  • Self-learning and discovery: Strong in self-discovery research to be able to fill gaps in our knowledge together with the rest of the team.

  • Bsc. or Msc. in engineering, preferred directions / knowledge areas: Computer Science, Mechanical engineering, Electrical or Hydraulic engineering, Aerospace engineering, Structural engineering etc.

  • Excellent knowledge of English, preferably speak/understand a bit of Dutch as well

  • Available for incidental offshore trips, e.g. twice a year a 2 or 3 week period, or few days in case of emergency fixes
